Son Of Alleged Trump Assassin Charged In Child Porn Bust To Appear In Court

The son of a suspect in an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in court on child pornography charges on Tuesday.
Oran Routh, the 35-year-old son of Ryan Wesley Routh, is facing two federal charges of possessing and receiving child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors are expected to ask that he remain jailed during Tuesday’s detention hearing.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, is facing five federal charges, including attempted assassination, after he was allegedly seen pointing a rifle through the fence of Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida on September 15. He did not fire any shots before leaving the scene.
Oran Routh was arrested after investigators searched his Greensboro, North Carolina home “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation,” according to court documents.
The sexual material was allegedly found on two Samsung Galaxy Note devices, one of which contained “hundreds of child pornography files,” prosecutors said in the criminal complaint.
“These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina,” prosecutors added. “Videos from the series depict minors engaged in sex acts.”
The minors in the videos were around 6-8 and 12-14 years old, according to the complaint.
Investigators also accused Oran Routh of responding to someone advertising the content for sale. He allegedly asked for a preview of the content.
He was booked into jail in Guilford County last week.
Ryan Routh appeared in federal court in Florida on Monday. He wore a tan prison uniform and his hands and feet were shackled. He spoke to acknowledge that he understands the charges he is facing.
He was arraigned on three new charges, attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, assault on a federal officer and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He was previously charged with possession of a firearm while a former felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains behind bars at the Federal Detention Center in Miami.
Ryan Routh allegedly wrote a note should he fail in the assassination attempt.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” the note said, according to prosecutors.
Ryan Routh, has a long history of legal troubles in North Carolina with several different mugshots.
His criminal record, which dates back to the late 1990s, highlights a series of prior encounters with law enforcement.
Routh appears to have spent most of his adult life in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he had multiple run-ins with the law over the years in Guilford County. These included a 2002 felony conviction for possessing a weapon of mass destruction and a 2010 felony for stolen goods. His record also includes numerous misdemeanors.
